It was alleged that a cylinder bored in a mill would quot;egg outquot;.

Excessive milling lowers the height of the head which retards cam timing, reduces the volume of the combustion chambers and increases compression. Too much compression can cause detonation problems, which in turn can contribute to overheating and repeat head gasket failure.

If the block has been decked I mill the intake a like amount for all material removed in excess of .025quot; from either the heads or the deck of the block. You can mill about .020quot; from the intake flange of the heads rather than the intake. This allows the heads to move from engine to engine with out the manifold having to mate with them. Regards,

6/7/2012#0183;#32;If you want a mill for a variety of things and intend to resurface a cylinder head once in a while, then a Bridgeport will work. Keep in mind that a Bridgeport (and the many clones) are very universal machines, but they are going to require good fixtures, some set up time, and are not going to be good choices for any kind of production / volume work in that application.

I took it to a shop where it was magnafluxed, milled and pressure checked for 50 I could have dicked around half a day with it and not been sure it was worth doing. I got it back done perfectly and ready to go. A Bridgeport vertical mill is a piece of shit to do a job like a head.

Or looks like this in a math formula: 1 / (((measured distance / ) squared) X ) = inches cut for a 1 cc reduction.
9/12/2020#0183;#32;Some surfacing equipment can be set up and mill a head in five minutes or less. Whats more, if you are resurfacing several identical heads in a row, the actual milling time may only be a couple of minutes. It all depends on the speed of the cutter head, the number of tool bits, the feed rate and how smooth you want the surface finish to be.
