The Consolidated Mine was a gold mine in Lumpkin County, Georgia, United States, just east of Dlonega. Like most of the area around Dlonega, the placer mining on the land on which the mine is located probably started during the Georgia Gold Rush. By 1880, the placer deposits were exhausted and the land was down to hard rock.
The Chestatee River Diving Bell''s purpose was to aid mining for gold in a river bed. It''s a unique artifact of the gold mining days in Lumpkin County and the only diving bell from that period known to still exist.
